GOING -TO -THE-SUN ROAD
Awoke to 50 degree weather and lookin' for a blankie, but got up at 7:15 and started the coffee & coke..a good breakfast & over to the Park to continue our quest of driving the entire Road to the Sun, or whatever. So we pretty much drove back to Logan Pass, where we were yesterday, but at the top, there was a small herd of Mountain Sheep & attracting a crowd. Off the west side we went but many stops for pics of waterfalls-too many to count!-, snow-topped peaks, rivers and a slight delay-road construction, but the view was tremendous. There were quite a few Cyclists riding up the west side, all from a Seattle Bike Club, out for a week-long trip, and the west side looks like a tougher climb, with lots of gravel. On down the west side to Lake Macdonald, another glacial lake, where we had a picnic lunch. Back up the Mountain to Logan Pass & a little hiking and watching the sheep, deer & marmots do their thing, plus a Mtn goat kicking up his heels. Back down the mtn to St Mary & some shoppin' and to the KOA. Finally, I work with the kid (Pete) in the office and get the WIFI to work! So I go out for a spin & KK heads for the pool. I decide to go back and climb up the "Road" and see some of it again. Back to camp by 7:30 and hit the showers and buy a few things at the KOA gift shop..a new fanny pack for me from KK!! (Anniv) It 's a nice one with two water bottles & storage..I needed this in SD! KK cooks supper-chicken Quesadillas & ice tea. Then a camp fire & a cold Alaskan Amber. 32 miles & 1700' today..back to the trail tomorrow with a drive to Missoula- the home of "Adventure Bicycling".
