Eagle's Nest Road
Well, a fine campground at Fort Peck Lake, the "downstream" spot and very nice, with bike paths, very helpful people. Still lots of deer around too. We had breakfast at the camp & prepared to leave for the next campsite. I got ready had headed out for the dam & a 6-mile ride across it! On my way up toward the spillway, I spotted an Eagle's nest perched on top on an electrical pole, with 3 Eagles on & flying around it! What a site! So I called KK and told her to be sure & stop when she headed out after me. Off I went again & it was an interesting ride..pretty hilly but not steep and thru the "Badlands" of Montana. Some very interesting rock formations and river breaks and not much traffic. I was almost out of water when she caught me, so I took and break -where we saw two pronghorn sheep bouncing over a hill-and then finished the 64 mile ride & 2800' to Rt 200. A nice rest area at that point, so we had lunch, despite the flies and headed west toward Lewistown. A wonderful little town with more casinos, bars & our Mountain Acres campground. Nobody here so we picked a spot & set up before a massive thunderstorm rolled through. (If you need rain just give us a call and we can help!) KK rode 14 miles this morning, before leaving the lake. Now we're cookin' supper in the camper as it's still raining..spuds, pork & salad. and hit the showers!(sidebar-the Judith Mountians in the area are named for Capt Clark's wife to be, Judit Hancock.)
